MAKE A CONFIDENT START AT UNIVERSITY

Don't struggle through one of the biggest life changes alone

Many students aren't ready for leaving home, living independently and organising their own studies

It could be partly due to the pandemic, cost of living crisis or gaming lifestyles, but some young people nowadays are more isolated than ever.  Higher Education has also changed, with thousands more students going to university, larger year groups, and less contact with tutors. It means many young people struggle with the social and organisational anxiety of settling in to the university that they've worked so hard to get to. You're riding the excitement of getting the grades you need, don't ruin it with the building terror of not knowing what happens next and whether you have the skills and knowledge to cope!

Don't let starting university feel like a nightmare!

You don't have to struggle with this alone

We will work with you in one or more 1:1 coaching sessions. Together, we'll identify the specific concerns and questions you haves. Not only will we answer these questions, but we'll draw on our decades of expertise in supporting students to help you reframe any stressful ideas about starting university into seeing it as an adventure and opportunity for real growth.

Turn this challenging experience into an adventure with the right preparation!

Why does starting university turn into a nightmare for some?

Freshers' Week and Induction Week are full of confusing tasks that compete for your attention. Some of these tasks are urgent and need to be done right away, whilst others are distracting, and better done later. Some are simply pieces of information to be aware of, whilst others are vitally important, but for later in the term. There are terms and conditions, and university policies around illness and academic integrity to read. There are social events and clubs, which are very important in helping you make friends and settle in.

This is an information overload for even the most organised of students, but for anyone who struggles with organisation or being proactive, or if you dislike change, then you'll likely feel lost and helpless.

And those negative feeling can quickly translate into feeling isolated, homesick and not enjoying university. Additionally, this often leads to falling behind at a crucial time, when it is difficult to catch up with the higher expectations of the course. This is one of the contributing factors to the high dropout rate of UK University Students. Forty thousand students dropped out of university in 2022 - that's equivalent to 1 student in 37 (Times Higher Education, 2023). We founded Wyrd Learning to better support people starting university for the first time. At a time when many universities are cutting investment into many areas of teaching, including student support (Financial Times, 2024), we want to use our experience and skills to enable students to succeed at university.

Expert coaching will help you navigate the changing and complex world of Higher Education, right from the start
